Ludlow’s Funding
Enquiry Gateway

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

Introduction

Ludlow’s Funding Enquiry Gateway is an online portal, launched in September 2023, to provide an efficient link between the charitable trusts (grant making foundations) that we manage and charities that are seeking funding. Once applications are matched via the Gateway to any of our 275+ charitable trusts, the timeframe for decision making on those applications is at the discretion of the trustees.

As with most other grant making foundations, the demand for funding far exceeds the value of funding available. Submitting an application via the Gateway does not guarantee that a charity will be awarded funding. However, the Gateway does offer the opportunity for applications to be linked to charitable trusts that are more likely to fund them.

We are pleased to confirm that charities may register on our Gateway free of any costs.

A specific application is one that is submitted to a named charitable trust. Your charity may have an existing relationship with the trust and/or the work that you do aligns with the areas the trust has shown support for. A general application is one that is submitted for the attention of any of the trusts that are managed by Ludlow who have indicated an interest in the type of work the charity does.

There is no limit to the number of applications that a charity can upload onto the Gateway, however we would discourage submitting duplicate specific and general applications. These will be filtered and only one of these will be provided to a charitable trust for consideration. However, you may want to submit several general or specific applications for different individual projects.

NB: Submitting several applications will not necessarily increase your charity’s success rate for receiving funding.

Once an application is submitted on the Gateway it cannot be edited. It may be deleted and resubmitted with the amended details.

We are pleased to announce that exempt charities are now able to register on our Gateway.

Please could you send your charitys details to charitabletrusts@ludlowtrust.com where a colleague will be able to assist with setting up your charity on the Gateway. However, we would encourage general applications to be uploaded, rather than looking to apply to a number of individual trusts, as this provides the best opportunity of matching your work with prospective donors.

We do not provide a list of all the trusts we manage, however all the charitable trusts that Ludlow provides trust administration services for can be found on the Charity Commission website.

If you are applying for funding towards an urgent national appeal, please could you use the following wording in the application outline “Charity Name – (followed by the name of the appeal)” The wording will allow trusts to determine live appeals and respond swiftly in funding such applications.

Due to the high volume of applications received daily, we are unable to contact unsuccessful applicants, however we will reach out to successful applicants as and when appropriate.

Due to the high volume of applications received, we are unable to review each one and provide specific feedback.

Yes, an application can be saved as a draft on the Gateway and worked on over time.

Applications are filtered using the matching technology on the Gateway and by our trust managers meaning the chances of trustees seeing two separate applications are extremely limited.

Each charitable trust has its own timeframe for when applications are reviewed, and decisions are made. Therefore, we are unable to provide any specific dates for the next trustee meeting or when decisions will be made, as this could be at any time in the next 12 months.

A verification email will be sent to each charity when they are registering on the Gateway to verify their account details.

These verification emails may be forwarded to junk/spam mailboxes, however if they still do not appear, there may be a firewall that is preventing the verification emails to deliver. If this is the case, you will need to contact your delegated IT team to unblock the email.

If the issue persists, please email GatewaySupportCentre@LudlowTrust.com where a colleague will be able to assist you further.

There is no threshold or limits in regards to the amount a trust would consider donating. All of our trusts vary in the amounts that they grant to charities.

If your query was not covered by the FAQs above, please feel free to email any additional queries you may have to GatewaySupportCentre@LudlowTrust.com where a colleague will be able to advise you.
